Frannie's Gourds began with the inspiration of artist Frannie Shulman.
After trading Silicon Valley for the much slower Santa Ynez Valley, Frannie found a creative outlet in growing gourds. Combining her love of the soil with a hidden passion for painting, Frannie produced a unique take on the gourd phenomenon.
Gourds are an inedible variety of squash that dry and develop a durable, wood-like shell. Frannie hand paints each gourdusing natural colors, which enhance the texture of the skin rather than hide it. The gourds are then finished with Frannies signature gloss. Every year for the past twelve years her gourds have sold through farmers markets, as well as to designers and retail stores. In addition, the gourds have been showcased at the California Vintners Festival and gift shows throughout the country.
